2018-2019 Collegiate Chapter Takeovers

One of the greatest aspects of Sisterhood is having a network of women who have “been there, done that” and are willing to help us on our journeys navigating similar challenges. Learning from our Sisters is one of the most incredible ways to garner information, and with the modern power of social media, the possibilities are endless.

This academic year, Alpha Sigma Tau is introducing a fresh way to learn first-hand from our collegiate Sisters. Over the course of the 2018-2019 academic year, eight chapters will take us behind-the-scenes on their campuses and showcase an area of focus in which their chapter excels. Our hope is that collegians across the country enjoy learning directly from their peers and alumnae enjoy seeing what the modern Alpha Sigma Tau experience looks like in real time.

You can find these takeovers on the Sorority’s Instagram account. These takeovers, indicated with a lightbulb emoji, will be made available in the Story Highlights section on the main profile page.

While you may have already watched some of them share their experiences, knowledge, and tips this semester, we’d like to provide a more formal introduction to these chapters!

Topic Area: Growth
Delta Pi | Oglethorpe University | Atlanta, Georgia

What experience does your chapter have in this topic area to be sharing with Alpha Sigma Taus across the country?
We will be sharing our experiences with recruitment from this year and past years. For the past several years, we have recruited to total despite being a small chapter on a small campus. We always recruit amazing women who later go on to hold officer and executive positions within our chapter. Being at a small university, our recruitment styles differ from larger universities, but we make it work! We love recruitment season and getting new Sisters.

What excites your chapter most about taking us behind-the-scenes?
We are most excited to share our recruitment process this year because we have made some major changes. Much like AΣT, recruitment must always be innovative to appeal to the women going through recruitment. This year, with lots of help from our advisors and Headquarters Staff contacts, we made necessary changes that we feel will better our recruitment processes.

Why does the topic of Growth matter to your chapter?
Growth for Delta Pi is always a top priority. At Oglethorpe, we aim to recruit the best women on campus. We think most chapters would agree that recruitment is a stressful yet fabulous time as we all bond and get ready to bring in new members. Without growth, chapters would not flourish and have women all across the nation that represent our values. Chapters should strive to bring in more women who uphold AΣT’s values and want to better their campus, community, and the world.

Topic Area: Academics
Epsilon Rho | SUNY Geneseo | Geneseo, New York

What experience does your chapter have in this topic area to be sharing with Alpha Sigma Taus across the country?
We have worked extremely hard to become the sorority with the highest GPA on campus, and are proud to have no Sisters on academic probation. We have a fantastic program/plan for our Sisters to achieve academic greatness and overcome any struggles they may face.

What excites your chapter most about taking us behind-the-scenes?
We are most excited to share all of our wonderful resources that have helped our Sisters! Initially, our chapter struggled greatly in academics. We had Sisters on probation, a low overall GPA, and negative attitudes about academics. After we have grown, succeeded, and overcome our struggles, we are excited to share and help other chapters.

Why is academic success important to your chapter?
We are passionate about this topic because academic greatness is something we work for every single day. Our school puts heavy emphasis on academics, and our main purpose as college students is to learn and earn a degree. Being a member of Alpha Sigma Tau is an additional part of the college experience, but the primary focus should be academic success. We have had numerous Sisters graduate with honors and we continue to highlight the academic achievements of our Sisters throughout the year. Additionally, a strong focus on academics is beneficial for recruitment and for our reputation, both of which are extremely important to growing our chapter.

What can we expect to see this year on your takeovers?
We will be highlighting some of our most effective methods of improving academics. Some of our resources include making academic plans with Sisters on (or close to) academic probation, personalizing and individualizing plans to help each and every member that is struggling, setting up a tutoring system,  and utilizing campus resources.

To share how amazing our sisterhood is and the hard work we put in to being the best chapter on our campus.

Why is campus citizenship important to your chapter?
We believe in building and maintaining connections with students, advisors, and university faculty. Without student involvement, there would be no successful student organizations.
