Information for Alumnae Chapters and Associations
Updated April 13, 2020 (Convention Travel)
Below is information for Alpha Sigma Tau alumnae chapters and associations with regards to COVID-19.
Upcoming Events and Gatherings
We have many upcoming events on our calendar. Should we cancel them?
At this time, all alumnae chapters and associations are directed to practice social distancing and either cancel, postpone, or transition meetings/events to a virtual format. We realize alumnae chapter and association leaders may be concerned that cancellation or postponement of events may impact voting eligibility for Convention. (Per the Standing Rules of Alpha Sigma Tau, alumnae chapters must conduct a minimum of seven business meetings and/or events each year and observe Founders Day. Alumnae associations must host a minimum of three meetings or activities each year, which may be in-person or virtual, and observe Founders Day.)
To protect the health and safety of our members and to provide flexibility while encouraging the supportive connections offered through Sisterhood, accommodations will be made for all groups that have made good faith efforts to meet expectations.
Night to Reunite is coming up on April 2. What should we do?
To promote the safety of our members and communities, Night to Reunite 2020 will be completely virtual. All Night to Reunite events must either be postponed, canceled, or transitioned to a virtual format. We encourage all Sisters to still connect virtually on Thursday, April 2; this human connection is needed now more than ever. Visit this page to view virtual event ideas and digital platform suggestions and to report your virtual event to the National Organization.
Caring for One Another
What can my alumnae group do to be helpful to one another?
As Sisters, we take care of each other.
If your alumnae group has women who may be considered a higher risk for contracting COVID-19, keep them at top-of-mind during social gatherings by making sure they’re taken care of and practicing wellness. Check-in on them outside of alumnae group happenings and see if they need anything.
If your alumnae group has women who are working moms, see if they could use a hand. Some elementary schools have gone online for a few weeks and some employers are requiring employees to work from home. She may appreciate another set of hands around the house or someone to check-in for some encouragement.
Is Convention being canceled or rescheduled?
Alpha Sigma Tau’s first priority is always the safety and wellbeing of our members. The Sorority’s 43rd National Convention is scheduled in Atlanta in June, but due to the COVID-19 situation, Alpha Sigma Tau is in the process of developing contingency plans. At this uncertain time, we are moving forward with planning and preparing for both the in-person event and a virtual option. We are working with our team and vendors to explore our options and determine what a virtual Convention may look like. The Sorority will continue to make all decisions with the safety and wellbeing of our members at the forefront. We hope to have more concrete information to share with you soon.
What should we do if we’ve already booked travel?
If you’ve already booked travel, we advise that you wait to see how things develop over the next several weeks. Airlines are continuing to make adjustments and accommodations for travelers as the situation continues to evolve. You can also contact the airline to find out what your options are should you need to cancel your travel plans.
We haven’t booked travel yet; what should we do?
Try to purchase refundable ticket options or consult with airlines about other accommodations they may make to assist passengers during this time.
