At each National Convention, the Convention body elects five alumnae and one collegiate member to the Alpha Sigma Tau National Council. Congrats to our new National Council!

Following the report of the nominations committee, additional nominations may be made from the floor provided that the individual to be nominated has consented in writing to serve if elected and that the nomination has been submitted to the Nominations Committee no less than ninety days prior to the opening day of convention along with verification of eligibility and a statement of qualifications.”

  1. You are encouraged to complete our Serving on the National Council course in the AΣΤ Learning Lounge to learn about the role of a National Council member, including the responsibilities and competencies of a successful National Council member.
  2. Attend the National Council’s info session for Prospective Council Members. Register for this webinar on Sunday, September 28, at 7 p.m. ET!
  3. Review the application below and gather additional materials prior to beginning the form. Application progress does not save.

Required Additional Materials:

  1. CV/Resume | Should include your education history, work experience, awards/honors, and relevant volunteer experience.
  2. High-quality Photograph | May be used for marketing and promotion purposes if you advance as a slated candidate for office.
  3. Current College Transcript | Only required for all collegiate members.

The National Council Candidate Application Deadline is October 11, 2025. Any applications received after that date will not be considered.

Post-Application Process
After the Nominations Committee reviews your completed application, a committee member will contact you by November 16, 2025. Candidate interviews will be conducted in November and December of 2025.

Thank you for your interest in serving on the 2026-2028 National Council for Alpha Sigma Tau. The Nominations Committee looks forward to reviewing your application. We seek a National Council comprised of members with diverse backgrounds, varied experiences, and unique perspectives who will work together to lead our organization. Every application will be given thorough and consistent consideration.

As part of the application process, you are encouraged to complete the “Serving on the National Council” course in the Learning Lounge. This course was designed to fully inform interested candidates of the requirements and expectations of serving on the National Council.

What is the Collegiate Vice President?

The Collegiate Vice President serves as a voting member of Alpha Sigma Tau’s National Council, which functions as the sorority’s board of directors. As part of the National Council, the Collegiate Vice President helps lead the sorority in developing and meeting strategic initiatives. Using data and trends, you’ll work with fellow Council members to establish strategic priorities that advance Alpha Sigma Tau and ensure its relevance to members in today’s ever-changing society.

What are the qualifications for the Collegiate Vice President?

  • Must be an undergraduate collegiate member of Alpha Sigma Tau at the time of election in June 2026
  • Strong leadership skills and dedication to the values of Alpha Sigma Tau
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to balance academic responsibilities with National Council duties
  • Interest in business, non-profit management, finance, strategy, project management, higher education, or related fields is desired

What would I be doing as the Collegiate Vice President?

As a member of the National Council, you would share in the governing responsibilities and would need to help fulfill the provisions outlined in our governing documents. This includes:

  • Participate in strategic planning and help set the vision, direction, and prioritization of sorority initiatives
  • Participate in hiring, supervision, and (if necessary) discipline and termination of the Chief Executive Officer
  • Provide proper financial oversight
  • Establish policies that define and uphold the sorority’s values and customs
  • Enhance the sorority’s internal and public image
  • Determine and monitor organizational programs and services
  • Ensure adequate human and financial resources
  • Participate in annual evaluations of the Council, organizational outcomes, and the Chief Executive Officer
  • Help identify and develop leadership competencies of women who will serve the sorority in various volunteer roles

What is the time commitment & other role expectations?

As the Collegiate Vice President, you will need to be able to:

  • Attend two National Conventions — one in 2026 in Minneapolis, MN, and one in 2028 in a location TBD
  • Travel 2-4 times a year independently to in-person Council meetings and other National events (typically a long weekend)
  • Attend virtual Council calls twice monthly, as well as serving on a committee or task force with twice-monthly virtual calls
  • Manage multiple projects independently and contribute to group projects with varying deadlines
  • Develop awareness of higher education and sorority landscape by reviewing shared resources such as articles, reports, podcasts, etc. 
  • Serve as a brand ambassador for the Sorority

What is the financial commitment?

As the Collegiate Vice President, you will need to be able to:

  • Pay for your own registration and travel to the 2026 National Convention to participate in the National Council candidate speeches and election. You may serve as your chapter’s voting delegate or alternate, and/or your chapter may pay for all or part of your Convention registration and travel.
  • All members of the National Council, including the Collegiate Vice President, are expected to make a gift to the National Foundation, as she is financially capable.
  • If elected, the Sorority pays for all National Council members’ travel and for approved expenses associated with Sorority business.

What are the core competencies of an ideal candidate?

The expectation to serve as a member of the National Council is that one must possess the competency of self-awareness. Through the competency of self-awareness, an effective Council member is mindful of her areas of strength and areas for further development. She understands how her strengths and areas for development may impact the dynamics of the National Council and one-on-one interactions with members of the National Council, as well as external to the Council. She actively engages in personal development and is aware of habits or preferences that may pose a challenge in her interactions with members of the National Council. She acknowledges that self-awareness is the foundation for all competencies as defined below.
