Charlotte Evans Floyd Scholarship
The Charlotte Evans Floyd Scholarship is named for one of Alpha Sigma Tau’s most dedicated alumnae members, Charlotte Evans Floyd (Psi 1947/James Madison). This award is reserved for a member involved in the study of business administration.
About Charlotte Evans Floyd
Charlotte’s story begins as a young girl from very modest means who was sent to college with just a few articles of clothing that comprised almost all of her life’s belongings. Charlotte’s gracious demeanor quickly allowed her to make vital connections on campus and ultimately find her way to membership in Alpha Sigma Tau as she earned her secretarial diploma from Jame Madison University’s College of Business.
Throughout her membership, Charlotte has served the National Organization as National Secretary, Chair of the Centennial Celebration, and most recently served the Alpha Sigma Tau Foundation as Secretary, a position she held for more than twenty years. Charlotte’s accomplishments in the organization have been noteworthy, impactful, and far-reaching. Her lifelong commitment to Alpha Sigma Tau inspires members of various generations and chapters.
Though she rarely accepts the credit for the contributions she has made to Alpha Sigma Tau over her 74 years of membership, Alpha Sigma Tau has recognized Charlotte’s contributions over the years. She is the recipient of the Aa A. Norton Award (1978), Order of the Yellow Rose (1996, 2012), and as a Sustainer of the Sorority (2000).
Charlotte spent most of her career in the federal government sector, working for agencies such as the US Geological Survey (USGS) and the Department of the Interior. In addition to her support staff roles, Charlotte served as an Alternate Security Officer for USGS under the Associate Director and Director. She was recognized with the Meritorious Service Award from the Department of the Interior in 1970. Charlotte also had the privilege of being included with the officials of the Department of the Interior to visit Camp David in 1971.
One of Charlotte’s greatest life pleasures is entertaining family and friends in her Washington D.C. home.
