About Thomas J King

Thomas “Jerry” King was the beloved husband of Sybil King, Alpha Sigma Tau’s 7th National President. He attended Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in Lexington, Virginia, where he earned a degree in civil engineering. The pair met at the VMI Mid-winter Dance in 1948 and married at the beginning of the Korean War when Jerry was recalled to active duty. On completion of his tour in 1953, the family returned to Birmingham, Alabama, where Jerry worked for U.S. Steel. He continued his service in the Active Army Reserve, primarily teaching officers and rising to the rank of Colonel.

Jerry always supported and encouraged Sybil to be involved in Alpha Sigma Tau and in turn had a tremendous impact on the history of Alpha Sigma Tau. His legacy lives on in Alpha Sigma Tau through this scholarship.
