June is Full of Fun Holidays!

Council Connections – June 2016

Each month, one of the National Council members writes a piece called Council Connections. It is our way to engage and share our thoughts directly with you – our Sisters. The honor of drafting June’s piece is mine.

This will be the last time I write for Council Connections, as I am rolling off the National Council after the 41st National Convention. I want to thank Tiffany Street, Emma Bunnell Rice, Erika McManus Bukva, Jamie Jones Miller, and Kristin Walker for their love and support over the last two years. I also want to thank Beth McOsker, Carol Mooney, Jamie Jones Miller, and Joanne Rupprecht Walter for all their hard work as delegates to the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). They have a very difficult balancing act representing both Alpha Sigma Tau and NPC. I also want to thank Jim Paponetti and the Headquarters Staff for all the support they give to the National Council and Alpha Sigma Tau. They always go the extra mile for us!

I looked back over the last few editions of Council Connections and found they were educational, interesting, and thought-provoking (especially mine!). But this month, I decided to just have some fun with it. Hope you don’t mind.

You know in the month of June, we celebrate Flag Day and Father’s Day, but do you know we also celebrate National Doughnut Day (June 3) and National Best Friends Day (June 8). Did I mention that I love doughnuts? June 7 is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day. I personally prefer vanilla, but to each her own. Along those lines, June 20 is Ice Cream Soda Day and June 22 is National Chocolate Éclair Day. All in all, June is a great month for dentists!

For you Disney fans, Donald Duck Day is June 9. June 19 is World Sauntering Day. Not exactly sure what that entails, but I guess you just saunter all day. June 3 is also Repeat Day. (I said Repeat Day!) For you Southerners who like your sweet tea, June 10 is Ice Tea Day. June 19 is National Kissing Day; how you chose to celebrate is up to you! June 24 is Take Your Dog to Work Day. Staff, please check with Jim before bringing your puppy to work.

June 21 is International Yoga Day. Our Sister Joanna Barrett will be celebrating that big time! (Don’t forget to attend Joanna’s Yoga sessions if you are coming to Convention! You have to get up early, but it’s worth it!)

Speaking of Convention, we hope to see you all there this year. We will be in Jacksonville, Florida, June 23 – 26. The Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront is beautiful and right on the St. Johns River. So pack your Badge Attire, Ritual Attire, workout clothes, and swimsuits – and I’ll see you in Jacksonville!

June 23-26, 2016, will be the best June holidays ever! Maybe we can saunter somewhere together … doughnuts anyone?
