Statement on Pending Sexual Assault Legislation
Alpha Sigma Tau knows that one sexual assault is one too many and the epidemic of sexual assault that plagues college campuses must end.
Federal legislation efforts aimed at sexual assault on college campuses have garnered a lot of attention recently. Through a very public national dialogue, feedback was shared about the proposed legislative ideas. Alpha Sigma Tau knows that the legislative process is lengthy and involves much feedback and revision before any proposal is finally voted into law.
With the recent meeting of National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) leaders with legislators on November 5, armed with member feedback, we are encouraged and support continued collaboration that creates revised legislation that all can support and move forward to make our campuses safer.
Alpha Sigma Tau is proud to support the collaborative efforts of the NPC to work towards solutions to end these violent acts and take predators to swift justice.
It is critically important that we, as sorority women, continue to lead this sometimes challenging conversation. Alpha Sigma Tau is proud of its members, and all sorority women, that have engaged in this dialogue to continue to make college campuses safer for our sisters.
Alpha Sigma Tau is committed to being a part of the solution.
That is why we are proud to partner with Student Success, one of the nation’s leading prevention organizations, to provide Not Anymore to our members and the volunteers who work with them.
Not Anymore is an engaging online program designed to educate members on sexual assault and relationship violence. It uses honest and compelling video tutorials to educate members and volunteers about consent, sexual assault, bystander intervention, and healthy relationships. The videos teach lessons that are drawn from the real world; they are honest, down-to-earth, and directly apply to the world of today’s college women.
