Today is Alpha Sigma Tau’s 116th Founders Day! Read National President Tiffany K. Street’s message to members.

Dear Sisters and Friends,

The eight founding women of Alpha Sigma Tau had a vision for the future of women. Their vision was to establish a women’s organization built on common values and ideals that would allow women to create relationships with other women defined as Sisterhood. One hundred sixteen years later, on November 4, 2015, we remember and commemorate the vision of our Founders.

Alpha Sigma Tau remains committed to the vision of our Founders. Alpha Sigma Tau empowers women to excel in life by instilling in each woman the skills necessary to navigate life, and inspires members to enrich their own lives and the lives of others. In order to achieve this vision, each member must live and model our core values of Intellect, Excellence, Graciousness, Respect, and Connections in all aspects of her life.

As you assemble with Sisters on this Founders Day, I encourage you to renew your commitment to our core values. Each of these values embodies the essence of membership in Alpha Sigma Tau and it is the responsibility of each of us to uphold these values to the best of our ability in all we do. On November 4, 1899, eight historical women entrusted every member that followed them with their vision for the future. Please reflect today on their gift of Sisterhood to you and let us all recommit ourselves to their exceptional vision for the many generations of women that have yet to come.
