National Council Update – August 2016
July 29 – 31, 2016
The National Council hosted a thorough orientation and planning meeting from July 29 – 31 in Indianapolis, Indiana, meeting at the National Headquarters Office.
Time was spent recapping the virtual orientation sessions hosted since Convention, reviewing current policies and procedures, and developing an operational plan for the current biennium.
Several guests joined the National Council to deliver an overview or deep dive into their area of work as related to Alpha Sigma Tau.
Jamie Jones Miller, NPC Delegate, covered a variety of NPC-related topics relevant to orienting the National Council to current National Panhellenic Conference matters.
Kris Haskin, Foundation Board President, provided an overview of the recent two years of work of the Foundation and plans leading up to Founders Day of Giving, November 4, 2016.
Lori Robertson, CPA with VonLehman, provided an overview of the annual Financial Review process and updated the National Council on the status of the FYE 2016 Financial Review.
Andrea Cowley, Associate Director of Dress for Success Indianapolis, joined the National Council to provide an overview of how local affiliates work with the larger Dress for Success organization and how each affiliate may offer slightly different programs and services, but all seeking to serve the same mission. The National Council, Headquarters Staff, guests, and local Indianapolis alumnae conducted an accessory drive and provided Andrea with three large boxes of accessories. These will be used to help a woman gain the confidence to enter or return to the workplace, make a great first impression, and land a job that could change her life.
Heidi Lewis and Tiffany Maurovich, both with MJ Insurance, provided a thorough overview of the Sorority’s insurance coverage.
Lastly, the National Council and guests hosted the Central Indiana Alumnae Association for a great lunch and Sisterhood time.
The National Council’s next in-person meeting is November 3 – 6, 2016, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The National Council further developed the 2016 – 2018 Operational Plan and approved the 2016 – 2018 National Council Group and Meeting Operating Norms.
