National Council Update – November 2016

The National Council approved the petition of the West Michigan Alumnae Association.
The National Council continued work on their Operational Plan by revising expectations and resources for the National Organization’s committees and committee chairs.
The National Council participated in fundraising education hosted by the National Foundation. The National Council, as part of their Operational Plan, are engaging in efforts to support the Foundation’s fundraising efforts as that work directly impacts the Sorority’s programs and initiatives.
The National Council continued its own development by discussing Patrick Lencioni’s book, Silos, Politics and Turf Wars. The book is a great read for any leader. It identifies, in a parable story format, the barriers that create unhealthy organizational politics and how to overcome them. The National President provided an overview of the schedule of the upcoming in-person National Council meeting.
Jenni Kemmery Nowotnik provided an update on the very successful Gamma Pi Chapter 25th Anniversary celebration.
November 4-5, 2016
The National Council hosted the second in-person meeting of their term in Little Rock, Arkansas, over the Founders Day weekend.
The Upsilon Chapter at the University of Central Arkansas was kind enough to host a reception on Founders Day for the National Council, and invited the Executive Committees and Chapter Advisory Boards from the Alpha Gamma Chapter at Henderson State University and the Beta Rho Chapter at Arkansas Tech to celebrate as well. The University President welcomed all guests to campus and praised Alpha Sigma Tau for its local and national efforts.
Drew Christian, the Sorority’s Investment Banker from Stephens, Inc., spent time with the National Council to provide an overview of Alpha Sigma Tau’s history with Stephens, Inc., the current economic climate, and the investment portfolio.
Time was taken during the day for the National Council to help promote the Alpha Sigma Tau Foundation’s Inaugural Founders Day of Giving. The day raised more than $68,000 from over 900 gifts to help support the Foundation’s initiatives.
Much work was spent on the National Council Operational Plan, including focus on enhancing National Committee Chair and Member orientation and resources.
