Academic Excellence
Academic excellence is at Alpha Sigma Tau’s core. Even from our earliest days, our Founders were committed to what they called “true scholarship.” Today, that dedication lives on through our high academic expectations.
Alpha Sigma Tau invites new members to join based partially on academic success. Each potential new member must have a minimum 2.5 GPA before a chapter can consider her for membership. Some chapters have higher minimum GPA requirements. Nationally, our average GPA is just over 3.0.
Alpha Sigma Tau believes that academic achievement and strong scholarship are an important part of sorority life. While our members are busy women involved in various activities outside of the classroom, we never lose sight of maintaining our high standards of academic success.

Holding ourselves and our Sisters to a higher standard
We have a minimum GPA requirement to join and remain as a member. Additionally, every Alpha Sigma Tau chapter has a Director of Academic Success whose primary responsibility is to ensure our Sisters are reaching their fullest potential in their coursework.
Supporting each other through challenging coursework
In Alpha Sigma Tau, you always have an older Sister to turn to who’s experienced that tough class or challenging professor. Our members are never short on study buddies.
Helping each other go further
Every year, members are eligible for scholarships exclusive to Alpha Sigma Taus. In 2019, we awarded more than $60,000 in scholarships to members to help them financially in their academic pursuits.
