A Legacy of Support: Why Ashley Brown Beasley Invests in the Future of Alpha Sigma Tau
In 1988, Ashley Brown Beasley joined Alpha Sigma Tau at the University of Alabama Birmingham. At the time, the Alpha Sigma Tau Foundation didn’t exist (at least not the way it does today), and the professional development and leadership programs that are now a core part of the collegiate experience were not yet available. Reflecting on her years in Alpha Sigma Tau, Ashley remembers the friendships and fun events that filled her college days. “Back then, I was just having fun—I didn’t finish school; I got my ‘Mrs. degree.’ And that was that,” she shares with a smile. But her view of Alpha Sigma Tau today is one of awe and pride.
“Now, I look at what we offer to collegians, and I think, ‘Wow, it’s amazing,'” Ashley says. “Had I had those opportunities and support back then, would I have found the confidence to pursue my dreams? I want our collegians to have every opportunity to succeed.”
Today, Ashley proudly supports the Alpha Sigma Tau Foundation, knowing her contributions help fund the very programs she wishes she’d had as a student. For years, she has given monthly to the Foundation, inspired by a desire to help current and future Sisters flourish. However, she recently decided to take her commitment one step further by including Alpha Sigma Tau in her estate planning, making a lasting investment in the future of the sorority.
“My husband and children knew I contributed monthly, but when I decided to include Alpha Sigma Tau in my estate planning, I felt it was important to share with them why,” she explains. “I have been blessed in so many ways by the friendships made through Sorority, but my collegiate experience, over thirty years ago, was mainly made up of fun events and faithful friends. Young women today are offered so much more through the programs available now through Alpha Sigma Tau. My gift will help ensure these and more are offered to future Sisters.”
Ashley’s vision for the future of Alpha Sigma Tau is one filled with promise and potential. “My heart’s desire is that future Alpha Sigma Taus will have a rich collegiate experience that prepares them to be lifelong leaders, committed to each other and to serving their communities,” she says. She hopes others will join her in the Legacy Society, helping to make these dreams a reality.
“Together, we can truly make a difference,” she urges. “Let’s invest in the future of Alpha Sigma Tau.”
