Because of You, Alpha Sigma Tau is Building a Stronger Future
Dear Sisters,
I am honored to share some very exciting news that will have a profound impact on the future of Alpha Sigma Tau.
This past spring, we heard from hundreds of members like you about the future of the Sorority. We learned about what makes, or would create, a strong Sisterhood Experience for you and your fellow Alpha Sigma Taus. To those who participated in the Membership Experience and Marketing & Communications surveys, focus groups, and interviews – thank you! To those who didn’t, please keep an eye out for future opportunities for feedback – we want to hear from you too!
The National Council listened, and based on your guidance, developed the following strategic initiatives for the next 2-3 years. We believe that focusing on these core areas will lead the Sorority to grow and thrive, both now and into the future.
Alumnae Engagement and Involvement
Our members want the Alpha Sigma Tau experience to continue past college. They view it as a lifelong experience, and are eager for opportunities to strengthen and improve it through increased engagement. Through these opportunities, members will strengthen their connections to the National Organization, with each other, and with the generations of Sisters who follow in their footsteps.
Growth and Extension
Over the past year, Alpha Sigma Tau has seen a record increase in collegiate membership to 5,145 members. This is, of course, not just happenstance, but part of a deliberate strategy for growth that has been implemented over time. Our members are excited and motivated by this tremendous growth, and want to see a clear vision for it to continue.
Marketing and Communications
The Marketing & Communications Survey gave us overwhelming insight into what our members see as valuable communications that enrich the Sisterhood Experience. They see value in brand consistency that reiterates shared member experiences, provides collegiate chapters with improved on-campus visibility, and drives member recruitment. Members also see Sorority communications as a way to engage each other and the National Organization.
Philanthropy
The Membership Experience Survey shows that our members want a philanthropic partner that is relevant to women today, accessible to our women, and creates a sense of pride. Our members strongly agree that there should be mission alignment between Alpha Sigma Tau and our philanthropic partner, and that the partnership should be an integral part of the Sorority’s brand.
This is just a brief overview of the strategic initiatives and the membership feedback that led to them. I invite you to review these initiatives in more detail here. Over the coming weeks, you can expect further communication about them.
One final note: these strategic goals will not only help us thrive, but also stay relevant as a membership organization in today’s world. Because of this, the National Council – again, guided by your feedback – has done a “refresh” of the organization’s formal mission, vision, and values statements. Please know that this is not a fundamental change in what these statements represent, but a re-wording that will keep us all focused on creating a quality Sisterhood Experience. I invite you to check them out here.
The National Council is excited about the future of Alpha Sigma Tau, and hope you are as well!
In commitment to you and your ability to excel as women,
Tiffany K. Street, National President
