Celebrating the Loving Bond Between Sisters

Council Connections – January 2016

By National Vice President Emma Bunnell Rice, Phi

Valentine’s Day has always been an interesting holiday for me. Only one day during the whole year to celebrate love? Seems like a lot of love to fit into one day, especially when I think about all the great things in life that there are to love!

I think that sometimes we forget that holidays like Valentine’s Day are for celebrating all of the things and people we love in our lives, like our Alpha Sigma Tau Sisters. In fact, for me, Sisterhood ranks at the top of my list. Your Sisters are there for you in your best times and your worst times, through the ups and downs of college and life after college.

Kind of sounds like marriage vows, right? These are the women who keep us going, pick us up when we are down, and who get us through life. They are the keepers of our secrets, our shoulders to lean on, and the ones who give us the pride to tell potential new members about our amazing Sisterhood. They should be celebrated – so let them know that you love them every day, but especially this Valentine’s Day!

Another day to proudly represent these women and our Sisterhood is International Badge Day on March 7, 2016. International Badge Day was established in 1997 by the National Panhellenic Conference to set aside a day for women in sororities throughout the world to wear their sorority Badges or letters in a celebration of our common sisterhood. So this coming International Badge Day, wear your Badge with pride to school, to work, or maybe even to a job interview, and think about all those Sisters who love and inspire you.

And be sure to share pictures of you (and your Sisters) wearing your Alpha Sigma Tau Badge on the Sorority’s Facebook and Twitter pages, and your personal and chapter social media pages as well. Use the hashtag ‪#‎badgeday16‬.

You never know, seeing you wear your Badge and talk about your Sisters with great pride and honor may inspire someone else. ‬

Happy Valentine’s Day and International Badge Day to you all!
