National Council Update – December 2016

The National Council called a special meeting and accepted the resignation of Kortney Powlison, Gamma Tau, as National Vice President.

November 16, 2016

The National Council approved a revision to the National Attire Policy. Many members have requested clarification to the Ritual Attire Policy as it relates to shoe color. Some Sorority documents include “nude” in the description along with “white or light ivory.” In many instances, common reference included “nude” as synonymous with “white or light ivory” as it relates to shoe color descriptors. The National Attire Policy now includes the descriptor “nude” as an appropriate shoe choice for Ritual Attire. (White, nude, or light ivory shoes are required. They may be either open- or closed-toed shoes.)

The National Council approved Educational Set-Aside Fund activity related to fiscal year end 2016.

The National Council referred to the National Council Vacancy Procedure to create detailed plans to fill the National Vice President (collegian) position vacated on November 9, 2016. Application instructions are forthcoming to the membership.

November 29, 2016

National Council members provided progress updates on areas of responsibility related to the National Council Operational Plan.

The Council reviewed revised Standing Committee Evaluations for the current term which furthered work on the National Council Operational Plan as it relates to Standing Committee development and support.

Kris Haskin, National Foundation President, shared an update on recent Foundation activities, Founders Day of Giving results, and thanked the National Council for their leadership gifts and donor cultivation to advance and support the Foundation’s efforts. Kris also presented the Memorandum of Understanding with no revisions for semi-annual renewal. The National Council renewed the MOU with the National Foundation with no changes.

The National Council spent time discussing specific goals related to the Alumnae Member Engagement and Involvement strategic area of focus. Earlier in 2016, Erin Fischer of The Leadership and Training Studio, conducted in-depth assessment with alumnae members to gain valuable feedback regarding how they wish to engage with and be served by the organization. That insight will be used to continue to shape direction in the Alumnae Engagement area of the organization’s strategic goals.

 

The Council discussed plans for ongoing reminders and outreach to solicit outstanding collegiate applicants for consideration to fill the National Vice President (Collegian) Vacancy.
