Now Seeking Members to Volunteer on Sorority Advisory Committee

Are you naturally curious, resourceful, and analytical and also looking for a way to connect with Alpha Sigma Tau in a meaningful way? Consider serving on the Sorority Advisory Committee!

The committee, which can consist of both collegiate and alumnae members, serves as a think-tank for the purpose of assisting the National Council in researching specific topics, trends, and other items as needed to meet strategic objectives.

Our inaugural Sorority Advisory Committee, who recently concluded their charge, provided invaluable research and insight on Generation Z, which exemplifies our current collegiate membership. As Alpha Sigma Tau continues to define excellence, we believe it is important to look toward the future of our Sisterhood by learning about our future Sisters. These are women who will be joining our Sisterhood in the next 10 years. To progress forward, we believe it is important to understand what differences these young girls possess from previous generations.

Therefore, the National Council is asking the Sorority Advisory Committee to answer this question: What are the characteristics, societal influences, and social constraints of middle school girls 10-14 years of age and in what way will these factors shape them as collegiate women?

The term for this committee is not set, but the National Council hopes to have the committee complete this work before Convention 2020.

The application process begins with an informational call with a National Council member. All calls must be completed by April 20, and applications are due April 27.

Wondering if you are a good candidate for the committee? The National Council has adopted a set of competencies, and associated descriptions they are seeking in successful members of the Sorority Advisory Committee. Ideal candidates may work or have relevant experience in any of the following:

  • University admissions counselors
  • Middle school teachers, counselors, coaches
  • Parents of middle school girls
  • Adolescent social workers
  • Women that volunteer with girls groups/youth groups
  • PR/Marketing professionals
  • Social media influencers
  • Nonprofit leaders of groups servicing middle school-aged girls

Volunteers drive Alpha Sigma Tau. If you think you are a good fit for this work, we look forward to talking with you soon. If this role isn’t for you, we encourage you to share with a Sister who is a better match. Thank you for your help in advancing Alpha Sigma Tau!
