Why I Volunteer for Alpha Sigma Tau

Stephanie Little, Beta Eta

Stephanie Little was recruited into her first volunteer role before she was even initiated as a new member with the Beta Eta Chapter at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Her service would be one of the defining aspects of her life as a collegian, eventually becoming (among many other positions) her chapter’s Director of Collegiate-Alumnae Engagement and Panhellenic delegate before becoming Panhellenic President on her campus. Since graduating, Stephanie has become a National Volunteer on the Nominations Committee, which fields and selects candidates for elected officer positions with the National Organization.

Why Stephanie Serves

Stephanie-Little-201x300For Stephanie, the reason for volunteering is very simple. “To me, if you see a place where you can help create something that will be helpful to others, then it is definitely worth your time,” she says. “I have always sought out opportunities to give back to Alpha Sigma Tau, as well as to the Panhellenic community.”

For her efforts, Stephanie was recognized on campus with just about every Greek Life award available. But that’s not why she serves. “The awards were neat,” she says. “But for me, it was important that everyone in my chapter felt included, and to make a great experience for everyone. I was driven by what I thought needed to be done and serving in the best way I could.”

When Stephanie graduated in 2014, continuing to serve was a natural next step of her Sisterhood experience. “Volunteering was such a big part of my life in college,” she recalls. “I wanted to keep that. I’ve learned a lot along the way, and met a lot of wonderful Sisters – we clicked right away.”

“Volunteering is crucial to the success of Alpha Sigma Tau,” Stephanie concludes. “The Sorority thrives when members are on the ground and engaged at both the national and local levels. I encourage each member to find the right fit for her.”

About Stephanie

A small town girl at heart, Stephanie moved back to her hometown of Moweaqua, Illinois – population 2,000. There she works in the family business – Little Accounting Services – and is getting connected to the community through organizations like the local Chamber of Commerce.

She serves on the Nominations Committee, which has recently presented a slate of National Council officers to be voted on at the 41st National Convention, June 23 – 26, in Jacksonville, Florida.
