Sisterhood is a family affair for the mother-daughter duo working to revive the Nashville Alumnae Chapter. Jessica Harper and her mother Tina are both alumnae of the Delta Mu Chapter, having joined when Alpha Sigma Tau returned to Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee. “Our journeys were a little different coming into the Sorority. I helped to bring Alpha Sigma Tau back to Cumberland after several years of closure, and my mom asked to join as an alumna shortly after,” Jess explains. “We were initiated together as founding Sisters in November 2015.”
Together, mother and daughter are creating fun and exciting opportunities for alumnae Sisterhood in the Nashville area. “Because Nashville is one of the fastest growing cities in the United States, we want to venture out and explore this new growth with Sisters in the surrounding areas,” Jess says. A little bit of brainstorming led the pair to begin their 2019 calendar with two meet-and-greet events at local restaurants to build Sisterhood connections in a low-pressure environment.
Poised to try something bigger, Tina and Jess capitalized on the wildly popular Night to Reunite efforts and hosted a gathering at Brushfire Pottery. To their excitement, seventeen area alumnae joined in the fun. “This was an awesome night with a great turnout,” Tina recounts. “We are honored and excited for potential new alumnae additions to our group, especially with how fast Nashville is growing!”
And what a remarkable growth experience it is for Tina and Jess to share: the chance to nurture the Sisterhood with their fellow alumnae while strengthening their own relationship – as mother and daughter, and as Sisters – through Alpha Sigma Tau.
